After graduating in 1977 from the University of North Carolina , Matthew began his art career at the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Twenty years later, Johnston continues to create works that touch the soul and relax the mind. His use of bold lines and imaginative colors have contributed to an unmistakable style that are enjoyed both domestically and internationally.

Matt continues to paint with passion and individuality in full view of the public and with his new studio now open, he shows no signs of slowing down.
